The following two infographics highlight quarterly movements in the economy and investment markets across Australia and New Zealand.
Over the Quarter:
Australian unemployment has decreased slightly, while New Zealand unemployment increased slightly, compared to the December quarter. The AUD has strengthened, while the NZD has weakened compared to the USD.
Equities have fallen over the quarter. Quarterly changes highlight that volatility remains very present, but the range over the quarter has tightened to a narrower band. Gold and Oil have increased this quarter. Whereas, Iron Ore and Milk have trended down over the quarter.
Annual inflation continues to fall, except in New Zealand where inflation remained sticky. Yields for Australian and New Zealand 10 year bonds were relatively steady and US 10 year bonds increased over the quarter. US 10Y/2Y spreads have tightened further since the last quarter.
