We bring you the RIPPL Roundup each month to provide an early market snapshot for New Zealand and Australian financial advisers.
Our Key Observations:
- The 10 year government bond yields have been mixed over the month with the Australian bonds falling by 0.1%, whereas all other countries saw an increase of 0.1% to 0.2% for the month.
- The European and UK central banks continued to hike interest rates up by 0.25%. The USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Canadian cash rates remained unchanged.
- The gap between headline and core inflation has closed across most markets. China notably has negative Headline Inflation and rising Core Inflation compared to developed countries.
- The average one year term deposit rates for Australia and New Zealand are flattening, as Central bank cash rates in both countries remain steady through August.
- Most indices have softened, entering negative territory for the month of August. For one year, the NZX50 was negative, while all other indices remained positive.
