The Research IP Fund Manager of the Year Awards are back in 2023, to round out the year that was and recognise the best fund managers in the country. Today, we are excited to announce the finalists.

Research IP has powered awards in New Zealand since 2015, with FundSource until 2019, and then as Research IP, and proudly sits behind the eponymous awards. Central banks in developed countries have hit pause on interest rate increases through the third quarter of 2023. However, markets are choppy with investors remaining uncertain from week to week with inflation and now conflict emerging around the world. This makes for an interesting period, where active funds management should be able to navigate the markets with more positive outcomes and lower drawdowns. But has that been the case? The awards will play a role by identifying the top-performing money managers, with categories such as Fund Manager of the Year, KiwiSaver Manager of the Year, Responsible Investment Manager of the Year, and new in 2023, Innovation of the Year.

In today’s fast-paced world, where technological advancements and shifting consumer expectations are reshaping the financial landscape, innovation has become a cornerstone of success. Financial institutions and service providers continuously strive to deliver new and improved solutions that revolutionise how we manage, invest, and protect our finances.

Research IP has created six broad themes to capture innovation:

  • Innovation
  • Impact
  • Value proposition
  • Scalability and sustainability
  • Customer experience
  • Industry leadership

On another front, we also want to take some time to reflect on the people who wear out their shoe leather in support of the funds management industry. Business Development and Client Service teams are an important piece of a successful funds management business. This year, we introduce the Relationship Manager / BDM of the Year, to recognise those at the coalface distributing and supporting investors and advisers.

Darren Howlin, Managing Director of Research IP, said: “Twelve months on from the 2022 Awards, we are excited to be heading to New Zealand for our eponymous awards. We are absolutely wrapped with the engagement from the industry during our shortlist process. We believe our awards recognise the hard work of fund managers, bringing together the best of the investment management industry. The event will come packed with insights from fund managers, including the risks in their portfolios and delving into the dark world of AI and what that means for financial services and beyond. There are some amazing takeaways.”

There is still time to have your say in the
Adviser Choice Awards and Investor Choice Awards.
